7 days post-op! My lower eyelid surgery and fat graft with Regen Plastic Surgery (Part 2)

7 days post-op! My lower eyelid surgery and fat graft with Regen Plastic Surgery (Part 2)

This is my third time in Seoul and the second time I’m going to Regen Plastic Surgery. What’s interesting about this visit is I’m being interviewed by 台湾三立新闻台 – a Taiwanese TV channel that’s doing news coverage on overseas patients coming to Korea for Plastic surgeries. If you haven’t, read all about my transconjuctival fat repositioning and fat graft touch-up on the Consultation and Surgery Day (Part 1)!
I’ve a bad habit of grossly underestimating the extent of injuries from my surgeries. I thought that I could look as good as new in a week’s time, but apparently that’s not possible. Patience! The road to recovery is 3 months long and I hope that I can look presentable when I start my new job on 3 April.

7 days post-op and recovery

Day 1: My eyes are super swollen, more so on the right than left. There’s a little bit of crusting but no oozing, which I can gently wipe away with slightly wet cotton buds. There’s no pain per se, just a slight discomfort opening my eyes due to the swelling. I’m diligently applying cold compress provided by Regen as frequently as I can for the next 48 hours, conscientiously eating my antibiotics for 5 days, and administering the prescribed eye drops thrice a day for 1 month.

I look like a victim of spousal abuse LOL!

Ice ice baby! Swelling be gone!

Day 2: Transconjuctival means that the incisions and sutures are inside my lower eyelids so there’s no visible scar at all. This method is best for people with no excess skin. The swelling is better today and I’m just keeping up with the icing, and sleeping with my head props up on 2 pillows. I’ve no problem eating, moving around and even watching TV, as long as there’s plenty of time to rest my eyes.

I think I’m looking slightly better. Or the lighting is more forgiving haha!

Day 3: Such a bliss to have my hair washed! I’m bathing as usual for the last couple of day. I just want to play safe and not get water into my eyes for the next 2-3 days, so I’m just cleaning my face with facial wet wipes, cotton pads, and having my hair washed at salons.

Washing hair at Myeongdong is really not cheap. It’s 30,000 KRW! But the feeling is “shiok ah” (very enjoyable)!

My friends fly in from Singapore to join me in Seoul today. We’re just walking along Myeongdong when it snows! Brrrr…

Day 4: My undereyes are looking better but still very much swollen, so is my fat graft. There’s asymmetry and bulges under my eyes and on my face, which is not uncommon during the healing phase. Apparently, different sides of the body/face will heal at different rate.

The bruises look greenish now and I look more refreshed compared to a couple of days ago!
Today, my friends and I take a free shuttle from Myeongdong to the foot of Namsan, then take a cable car up. Feel like standing on top of the world from this altitude! Later, we take bus no.5 to the Namdaemun Market. It’s like the Chartuchak Market of Bangkok!

Feeling the love at Namsan Tower! Friends since 1997!

Want to find all kinds of goods like socks, bags, jewellery, T-shirts at wholesale prices? Nandaemun market is the place!

Day 5: Going back to Regen for follow-up! The sutures inside my eyelids are dissolvable so there’s no need to remove them. Dr Kim assured me that swelling after transconjuctival fat repositioning is normal. Just 9 days out, I’m still very, very early in the healing phase. Full recovery may take 3 months! I didn’t get to see Dr Oh though, cause he’s in surgery. The thing about Korean surgeons is they are doing surgeries practically everyday, practice makes perfect, I’m not so sure if I can say the same about plastic surgery surgeons in Singapore.

So glad to see Dr Kim! A pat on the shoulder to reassure me that everything is alright. Thanks Dr Kim and the staff of Regen for being awesome and taking good care of me!

Day 6: The swelling looks more or less the same as the last couple of days, just that some of the bruises have faded from purplish to yellowish. Today is the last day we have in Seoul, and we’ll be on a 9am flight out to Singapore tomorrow. Farewell Seoul and let’s take in the alluring cosmopolitan cityscape one last time!

There’s still a fair amount of swelling but the bruises are much lighter now.

Visiting the famous Gyeongbokgung before we fly back to Singapore.

Changing of place guards outside Gyeongbokgung.

Tired after walking around the Gyeongbokgung, so it’s time to eat the famous Korean Ginseng Chicken Soup. This authentic and traditional Tosokchon Chicken Soup Restaurant is within 15mins walk from the palace and is highly recommended by my friend’s (in the pic) friend. Haha!

Look how committed they are in stirring the “hor liao” (superior ingredients).

We’re so full from the ginseng chicken soup but we thought that it’s still worth checking out the Noryangjin Fisheries. This is the old fishery …

… and that is the new Fishery, just beside.

Look at how “stun” those sting rays look! :p

Day 7: Back in Singapore! Home sweet home! I’m still pretty much swollen, especially under my right eye, but I’m optimistic that it’ll turn up well eventually. I can’t do any revision anyway in the time being so I’ll just have to wait patiently for the end results. I’m now alternating between hot and cold compress to bring down the swelling and tone the skin several times a day. Meantime, only light exercise, no eye make-up, and no contacts lens for a month!

Looking more presentable but still a long way to go!

Can’t help but look at some of my old photos and lament how badly I look right now. I don’t look too shabby before my surgeries if I dab my concealer, wear makeup and take my photos under favourable lighting conditions.

Selfie before eye surgeries.

I am fixated on doing the surgery and it’s done. I’ll brave the recovery now. I read on the internet that lower blepharoplasty, especially with fat repositioning or fat grafting takes a longer time to heal than upper bhlepharoplasty. So, please stay tuned for my next update and more photos!
